Day 80 – 25th August 2010

Day 80 at last; feels like so much more than that though.

After a couple of very busy days the sea seems to have worn itself out a little. It was very flat this morning with very little wave action. However, there was a very strong current pulling to the East. Bob decided to make the effort and come back today (some lame excuse about Gillian coming back from France yesterday blah blah – sure Bob, you were just tired now you’re well into your 50’s and couldn’t keep up with the younger men like me!) and we swam all 4 buoys up to the pier, then under the pier to the next two buoys, then back round the pier, tracing around the 4 buoys and back again. The current made it hard coming back around the pier, very much swimming to stand still, but apart from that a fairly decent and uneventful swim. Started 7am and finished 7.45am. Back at the arches it seemed like a fashion show was on with Leo taking photos of Paul’s new swimming costume and hanging up on the wall the amazing white speedos he was sporting yesterday. What fine specimens we sea swimmers are; fashion conscious to the end.

Then at 12oclock (midday) I was back in the water, this time at Falmer, for a 90 minute session with Mark. It went really well and I managed to cut my stroke length down from 30 to 27 to 26 to 24 – the lowest I have ever had it. A tough session, but very fruitful. I’ve got yet another one tomorrow, as well as a gym session and a sea session – ouch!
