Day 76 – 19th August 2010

Day of the weed!

Great swim today, but not for the faint hearted. It was extremely choppy, much more so than Monday. Bob and I took our usual route; we swam to the buoys and around the pier once; pretty much all you could do in these conditions.

Coming around the head of the pier we were met with carpets of seaweed. Literally layers of it. At times we were so tangled in it that we literally slid over it back into the sea.

A real challenging swim, but a great workout and hugely enjoyable. I tried to use a lot of what Mark taught me last night, but the waves made it hard to concentrate. It made me realise how dangerous swimming can be; basically life threatening if you are not a strong swimmer or someone with a strong mind. The power of the sea is incredible and you simply must respect it. However, at the same time you must not be frightened of it or daunted by it. This is definitely a two way street – you respect it and you control it.

Nice !!!

  1. Hi Rob - only just discovered this blog, but will catch up and follow you with interest from now on! Your description of the seaweed doesn't sound 'hugely enjoyable' to me, but each to their own ;-}
