36 days to go and counting -----
Another pinch punch, July is here – so where is the
sun! Yesterday was nice and warm at
times, but the sun was in and out, as were the rain clouds. This morning though the air temperature had
dropped again and walking down the beach really felt more like the start of
winter rather than the start of the summer.
After another massively busy and tiring weekend and a night
of twins keeping me awake it was a less than enthusiastic walk down the beach
to the sea. Big Bob, Shoichi and I
headed in, whilst LB and his crew were just getting ready for their dip; Lindy “the
fish” however was already in the sea somewhere, I know this simply because one
gets to knows the flip-flops of others – for s sea swimmers. Can you imagine a blind date of sea swimmers;
“I’ll be standing under the clock at 7.00pm in my stripy flip-flops, what
colour will you be in”
The sea this morning, was an average 15.2 degrees, apart
from right at the coast which was probably just around 12 degrees and the
seaweed was twisting around your limbs and squeezing whenever it wanted to. The waves were big and choppy and the tide
was strong to the East. We swam around
the pier, literally being lifted and smacked back down at regular intervals; it
was like being in a wrestling ring with someone far hairier and heavier than
you. We swam around the pier, to the buoys
and back; Shoichi leading the way as ever (and then staying out a good 10
minutes longer than us), with me next and then Bob on my tail. It’s good at the moment because I am now
pretty equal with Bob (sometimes a little faster and sometimes a little slower)
and it means that I can enjoy swimming with him rather than wondering when the
day will come …….......
Today will be a 1pm hour in the gym with Ross, then back to
work and then 8pm in the gym at home when the kids are asleep. Tomorrow, weather permitting, will be a morning
swim with Bob and then decent long swim with Fiona and the relay team after
work.
