Day 222 - Friday 1st April 2011

Oh what joy, seriously, no sarcasm needed.

The sea can be described today as follows;

  • Rough with large rolling waves, but not dangerous if one is experienced.
  • Strong tidal pull to the East, but not so strong that one could not swim hard to the West
  • Cold, but at 7.5 degrees not freezing
  • Fun
This morning swim was hard work in terms of exercise, certainly the 25 minutes we did in the sea was at the very least twice as physical as the hour I was going to do in the pool. We went in mid beach and swam until we had gone passed the groin (donut side) to the beach on the other side and then let the tide take us back to mid beach. We then carried on swimming for at least another 10-15 minutes; through the waves, under them, over them and through them. The temperature meant we could stay in for a decent amount of time; in fact if we had wanted to, and if we were foolish enough to not be scared, we could have gone around the pier. Crazy Leo, the bravest of us all, did go around the pier, but to be honest I was there to exercise and enjoy, not to be scared or in danger.

A great start to the Friday. The rest of the day will be somewhat long I feel as I now have meetings at work from 8.45 until midday and then off to Gatwick for a meeting at 1pm with someone before he flies on holiday, then a 4 hour drive to Birmingham and overnight stay for an early Saturday morning meeting. Having the sea to start the day though certainly made 1st April a good start to the month.
